Discipling 12
Lesson 20

The Blood

Concept:
As we begin to examine the scriptures on
the significance of blood, I think we would
all have to say, our basic understanding of
these scriptures is minute. Especially in
our Western culture, we are very ignorant
about things like the blood covenant and
blood pacts. We have read in scripture the
statements like without the shedding of blood
there is no forgiveness, but I am not sure
that there is any revelation of that statement.
Everything about the forgiveness of our sin
hinges on the shed blood of Christ. A just
God has justified all of us sinners because
of the value that was placed on the shed
blood of Jesus Christ. We need to be able
to comprehend the power of Christ’s offering
of His own blood, as it was offered through
the Eternal Spirit the very root of sin was
dealt with once and for all. After the
revelation comes, we can with confidence
say that sin no longer has dominion over
us. We are free from the slave market of
the devil because the blood of Christ has
purchased our salvation. We will be able to
walk in the truth of the Word that declares
that we are washed clean because are sins
have been removed by the blood. Condemnation
and guilt is released by that blood and we
can serve the living God with a pure conscience.
Why are the pictures of sacrifices so vividly
painted in the Old Testament? Why was the blood
put on the Mercy Seat of the Arc of the Covenant
and then on the ground? Why was the blood of the
animals placed on the right ear, right thumb,
and the right toe of those that were cleansed?
Why were all those animals sacrificed and why
so much BLOOD? Obviously, there is a lot that
we need the Holy Spirit to reveal to us. We certainly
don’t want to take lightly the blood. Our church
fathers made much of the blood and we have not
emphasized it very much. They pleaded the blood
over everything and we don’t use it as a weapon
in very many cases. Where is the balance?
As the Israelites brought their animals to be
sacrificed there was a lot of time and money and
hopefully repentance involved. We go to Jesus our
High Priest and confess our sins with little effort
and I wonder about our repentance. Is grace used without
proper appreciation? That is something of course that only
each individual can answer. I am certainly not making a case
for animal sacrifices again but I am making a case for a
correct appreciation and appreciation of the blood of Christ.
We need to take the time necessary to meditate the meaning
and application of the sacrifice that were made in order to
appreciate the full impact of the sacrifice that Christ made.
We need to fully understand the communion elements which
represent the sacrifice of Christ on the cross and not
wrongly discern the Lord’s body as I Corinthians 11:29 warns.
The blood of Christ is certainly a fundamental block in
our Christianity. We all need to examine ourselves and
ask the Lord to show us His heart on His blood. Without
seeing through His eyes we will not be placing the right
value on that shed blood. The life that was poured out in
His blood was so powerful that it wiped away all of the
death and debt that was waiting to be paid. The devil has
no more legal right to extract payment out of us because
the Lord paid the full price. The debt that sin demanded
was cancelled, the death that was ours was nailed on that
tree of Calvary, and the brokenness that sin had inflected
was healed on that day we commonly call Good Friday.

Summary:
When scriptures make the statement,
that there is life in the blood, can
you imagine how much life came out when
Christ blood was shed. There was so much
life that all the sins of man’s past and
present and future were completely washed
away once and for all when Jesus became
our Passover lamb. Imagine the amount of
payment that was necessary to pay the
wages that sin was demanding. I am sure
that I couldn’t even imagine the amount
of life that was necessary to cover the
wages that sin demanded. Each sacrifice
that was offered in the Old Testament was
painting a picture of what would happen
when Jesus went to that cross. Each drop
of blood that was put on the mercy seat
was declaring that when a drop of the blood
of Christ was placed on the Mercy Seat in
the Holy of Holies in heaven; all of the
sins of mankind were going to be paid. No
longer would the enemy have any right to
put death on forgiven believers. I am sure
there was great excitement on the Day of
Atonement when the Israelites knew that they
were covered for another year, we are covered
for a lifetime. Our sins are not covered over
they are removed as far as the East is from the
West. Is it any wonder why the devil doesn’t
want us to teach and preach about the blood? The
Blood of Christ is our covering and guarantees that
we are going into the Promised Land and that we will
be able to conquer in His Name. We are washed on the
inside and the death from the outside that the devil
tries to put on us has no place to reside
(Proverbs 26:2). Give the Lord a shout of praise.

Action:
Take Leviticus 17:11 and begin to ask
the Lord to explain to you what it is
saying and the power that is wrapped
up in the blood. Then meditate Hebrews
9:14 and ask the Lord to cleanse your
consciences of anything that is keeping
you from serving the Living God. We want
to be washed with the revelation of the
cleansing power of the blood of the lamb.
We want to serve the Lord with our whole
mind that is free of rerun movies about
my past. We are not going to receive the
devils condemnation from our past because
it is washed away and lost in the sea of
forgetfulness. Praise the Lord!
