D-12
Small Groups

The command of the Bible is to go into the entire world and make disciples of all nations. The age-old problem is how we are going to put into place a pathway to allow people to go from the point of conversion to a mature ministering believer. I know that all of us would agree that the best model to follow and pattern ourselves after is Christ. The world was totally changed by the Lord pouring Himself into twelve God-given disciples who turned and changed the world.

We have chosen to follow the model of Discipling 12 that Jesus introduced. It is our desire that every believer get into a Discipleship Group that allows them to receive instruction from the Word of God and become a disciplined follower of Jesus Christ. We have found that Jesus did more than just teach the Word. He also prayed with His disciples and walked them through difficulties that they faced. We desire the same thing to take place in our small groups. Prayer is a key ingredient and is emphasized and encouraged at every meeting. As we study and pray together, relationship is established. There is a bonding and a commitment that takes place allowing healing and restoration to flow like the Lord desires. We also are committed in our groups to encourage everyone that they too can be a leader. Everyone is gifted by the Lord and everyone’s gifts need to be given away so we can all mature as each member adds what the Lord has given them. That is what a leader is: someone who gives their gifts away. We encourage everyone in our groups to start a group and begin to give away what they have been taught. We desire our disciples to use the biblical pattern of two by two. A team concept of leadership is always emphasized. The group will not always start with 12 disciples—maybe a just a “D3” which is great. The Lord will bring increase.

There are three other parts of the vision that you will want to check out on our website. First, the lessons that are used in the D12 groups are on the website under D12 Lessons. You will want to check one out so you can get a flavor of what is discussed. We want everyone to look up all the scriptures and then the leader will facilitate a discussion on the lesson. The second point of interest is our encounters. The encounter is a place to meet God and allow the Holy Spirit to take out of our lives the impurities that would eventually harm us and others. Since we teach what we know but reproduce who we really are, we want to be as pure as possible. The last point of interest is our Leadership School. We don’t expect people to do anything without being instructed, given a practical forum to ask questions, and get encouraged before they step out and start their own D12 group.

There are many more parts of the vision that extend into the local body, community, and into the world, but hopefully this will give you enough of a picture to pray and get God’s vision for you. South Coast Fellowship has made a commitment to go into the entire world and make disciples of all nations. If you want to be a part, we would love to have you lock arms and walk with us.
