THE CROSS: HATRED PT.9

Proverbs 10:12 NIV Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.

Have you ever experienced this word? Have you ever had someone say they hate you or have you ever said that you hated someone? Hatred is a very strong word and scripture says that if I even think hatred I am performing murder. How is that for conviction? Jesus knew the brokenness of our flesh and when He went to the cross He broke the power of hate. Think of the hate that was poured out on Him as he was mocked, whipped, and spit on by the soldiers. Think of the hate that the religious leaders had for him as they purposed to have Him killed. Isaiah 50 lets us know that the Sovereign Lord will vindicate us and also says that He allowed that hate to be poured on Him and did not fight it. How is that possible? I was the power of the Spirit of the Lord that Jesus was able to do the right thing and He did it for me so that I could walk in the right way.

When people hate me, I can walk in love and pray for those who are speaking evil of me. When I realize that hate is rising up in my heart, I can ask for the same power Jesus asked for to release forgiveness. I can say, Father, forgive them since they don’t understand what they are doing. The love that Jesus demonstrated when He was on the cross can be in my heart. My heart of stone can be changed into a heart of compassion by the Holy Spirit. Pray for a heart transplant today.

Scripture: Isaiah 50:6, 7 (NLT)

I give my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those who pull out my beard. I do not hide from shame, for they mock me and spit in my face. Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be dismayed. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will triumph.
